When it comes to building a forum, is there any forum software that you dislike and will never use it for your forum? Well, I haven't tried too many software and the ones I have used are good. I have a particular dislike only for free forum hosting. I would never run a free hosted forum.

The only software I can think of I wouldn't use is vanilla and that seems to be ceasing to exist anyways. Discourse, NodeBB and Flarum grew on me. Vanilla was similar but it just seemed like it was behind when compared to the other three modern scripts.

I have heard of Vanila but never seen what it looks like, let alone using it. I don't think I have ever been on a forum running in Flarum as well. Discourse and NodeBB both looks nice but using them looks little complicated.

Yeah installing Discourse and NodeBB can be a bit challenging especially if you're not familiar with Linux. Flarum is similar to Discourse and NodeBB, though it's written in php so you can install it on a shared host or sign up for free flarum.
