This software used to be quite popular back in the early days of internet forums. In fact, many gaming forums used vBulletin as their software of choice. I feel it went a bit downhill after 5.0 came out and not too many people tend to use it for new projects. In fact lots of devs who worked on this software went on to work on Xenforo. They just released version 6.0.7 recently. You can read more about the latest version in the link below:

I haven't used it as an owner but I have used a couple of forums built with this software. It seems nice but I have no intention of using it. I think XF excels in many areas.

I've not seen real problems with VB forums lately from a visitor standpoint.

I'm currently using vBulletin for another forum called Glitch Forums. I need to renew my license though to get the newest updates. It's come a long way I think from an admin point of view, it also comes with a gallery, blog, and groups so you can get a full suite for much cheaper than other platforms.
